Assassin's Creed might be about to kick into a gear we can't even be prepared for, but that isn't stopping players from reminiscing.

There's a lot of ongoing debate as to if Assassin's Creed has ultimately crossed over past its prime, and while many look wistfully towards Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood as the peak of the franchise, there are still many picking up new titles and loving the adventure on offer in Valhalla.

Despite the arguing, there's still plenty to love across the timeline of the series - and now, you can bag a bunch of them for free.

If you've wondered what the future of AC holds after falling out of the franchise after Ezio departed, then there's good news - you have the chance to play a series of Assassin's Creed games entirely for free, on practically every modern console that you can play them on.

Along with some big price reductions, players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via the Ubisoft and Epic Games stores will be able to play Assassin's Creed II, Revelations, Brotherhood, Black Flag and Valhalla over the weekend for free.

Though it's only a free weekend, it's one that Ubisoft rarely wheels out, so it's definitely worth making the most of the offer while it's kicking around. If you haven't seen the modern structure of Assassin's Creed since its stealthy days or fancy revisiting the classics, this is your best chance.

The free games event starts tomorrow on August 10 and will come to a close on August 14, but if you choose to buy the games after the fact, you'll be glad to know that your progress will carry over.

The Assassin's Creed series clearly has a lot of gems if it can just wheel these titles out for free - and if the future can be presumed from these games, then we've definitely got a lot to look forward to.
