Netflix's The Witcher hopes to keep us spellbound, and although we haven't even sat down for Season 2 yet, lead star Henry Cavill has laid out his own grand plans for seven seasons of the fantasy epic.

The legacy of CD Projekt Red's The Witcher game series is almost unparalleled, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt regularly being cited as one of the greatest games of all time. It was only a matter of time until someone snapped up the rights, and with the streaming might of Netflix earning that honour, it's been a lucrative union.

What Has Cavill Said About The Witcher?

When Season 2 aired its trailer, it was already confirmed that the story would continue in Season 3. However, Cavill doesn't want to stop there. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill opened up about showrunner Lauren Hissrich's proposed seven-season plan.

When asked about his commitment to Hissrich's roadmap, Cavill said, "Absolutely. As long as we can keep telling great stories which honour [author Andrzej] Sapkowski’s work." We imagine Caviil's reported pay cheque of $1 million per episode might be helping his optimism when it comes to that little deal.

Thankfully, it sounds like Cavill is in The Witcher for more than just the money. Hyping the star's involvement, Hissrich said, "He knows he is number one on the call sheet, and there’s a great responsibility that comes with that. A lot of times, that person can make the show a hurricane that revolves around them. Henry works hard to make that not so. He’s on time. He always knows his lines. He always knows his choreography and certainly always knows his action."

It's no secret that Cavill lobbied hard to play Geralt of Rivia, and being a self-confessed fanatic of the games, his hard work has paid off. Alongside those continued rumours he could be suiting up to play a certain suave spy with a licence to kill, his role in The Witcher is one of the hottest around.

Will There Be Seven Seasons Of The Witcher?

It's a nice idea that The Witcher could run for so long. There's certainly the potential for an epic yarn to sprawl out over seven seasons - with the games offering more than enough source material. Until recently, the show's 76 million viewership made it Netflix's most-watched show - until Bridgerton dethroned it. Still, there's plenty of hype for Season 2 and beyond.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether The Witcher will make it to Season 7. There's no denying Netflix has some great originals on its books, however, not many make it to seven seasons. It tends to be that there's a huge wait between seasons, and let's remember, even the majesty of the Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things is tipped to bow out Season 5.

Here's hoping The Witcher isn't destined to do a Game of Thrones-inspired nosedive that leaves us with a final season fans petition to be remade. The first hurdle is making sure your talent is in it for the long run, so at least we know Cavill is willing to stick it out with Geralt until the very end.
