As Hollywood's biggest gaming advocate, Henry Cavill has recently stepped away from The Witcher universe due to the Netflix series' deviation from the source material which he loves so much. But that doesn't mean he's done with gaming crossovers.

The Warhammer 40K devotee has long professed his love of gaming but recently turned his focus back toward being Superman and even eyeing a possible role as another silver-haired heartthrob in House of the Dragon.

However, a recent report suggests that Cavill is set to become Captain Price in an upcoming Call of Duty movie, which has bemused fans of the franchise.

Henry Cavill could star as Captian Price in a rumoured Call of Duty movie

With Cavill's last portrayal of Geralt of Rivia looking to be aired later this year, reports from Giant Freakin Robot suggest that Hollywood's hottest prospect is lined up to play Call of Duty's beloved Captain John Price in a film made by Amazon Studios.

Captain Price is one of the main characters in CoD's Modern Warfare series (premiered by Infinity Ward), and although you never actually play as Price in the series, you operate in Task Force 141 under his wing. It's worth noting that the publication is known for having quite mismatched accuracy in its exclusive leaks.

Rumours for a Call of Duty movie have cropped up every year for the better part of the last decade, but with ownership being passed on to Microsoft with the recent (pending) acquisition of Activision, it could be the first time these talks become real.

Call of Duty fans disappointed by supposed Captain Price casting

Despite Cavill's obvious reputation and calibre of work, which will likely boost sales, long-time fans of the franchise have now slammed the reports to bring in The Witcher superstar.

Instead, they insist that Barry Sloane - the current face and voice of Captian Price - should have been cast."Obviously Bill Murray is too old to play Price but Barry Sloane has been doing amazing for a while," said one fan on Twitter. Another added, "Barry Sloane should play price before anyone. He’s earned it."

Sloane has recently been the star in another war-based series, Six, and featured in the series Litvinenko alongside David Tennant. Having been cast as Price for the last four years in the Modern Warfare reboot, he's become a huge part of the Call of Duty community.

Whether it's Sloane or Cavill, an Amazon-backed Call of Duty movie would be quite the hit...if rumours are to be believed.
