Grand Theft Auto V made immense waves in the world of gaming upon its release. Its introduction to the Xbox 360 and PS3 was of huge significance, and its port to the following generation of Xbox One and PS4 consoles hit home even further the financial success that Rockstar had managed to pull off. And now, fans are asking for a new port to the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5 to enhance the title even further and bring one of the 21st century’s most popular game to the world of 4K and enhanced framerates. But, chances are, it might run them a pretty penny.

The port that many have been waiting for is likely to cost just the same as the brand new titles coming to the next generation of consoles. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the chances are that it’ll come to $69.99 in its next-gen excursion as derived from comments by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who has expressed willingness to price up the company’s game to make up for costs. “There hasn’t been a price increase for frontline titles for a really long time, despite the fact that it costs a great deal more to make those titles”, Zelnick said to GamesIndustry.biz in late 2020. “And we think with the value we offer consumers… and the kind of experience you can really only have on these next-generation consoles, that the price is justified. But it’s easy to say that when you’re delivering extraordinary quality, and that’s what our company prides itself on doing”.

Take-Two’s Recent Comments On Game Pricing

On top of these previous comments, Zelnick brought up the same topic once again in a Take-Two earnings call, in which he states;

“We’re definitely announcing pricing on a title by title basis. There hasn’t been a front line price increase for a very long time buy costs have increased significantly. We believe we’re delivering the highest quality experiences in the business. It does rely on our continuing to deliver amazing experiences, and that’s our strategy and our goal.”

He also stated in March that pricing is fair in its rise, as they had released NBA 2K21 and they believe that the price is reasonable due to the game’s replayability. It looks like decisions will be made for each individual title under Take-Two’s next-gen release slate, but it’s safe to assume that GTA V’s port will be on the higher end of the pricing spectrum. It was one of the biggest titles of its generation, and while it’s still a money mill of insane proportions with GTA Online, it’s only good business practice on Take-Two’s part. It might upset some fans, but hey - chances are they’ll buy it no matter the price. It is GTA V, after all.
