Get ready to have your lives turned "upside down", as the latest Far Cry 6 crossover brings Stranger Things to Ubisoft's open-world shooter. Although we're pretty sure most of you have polished off the main campaign and saved the idyllic Yara from the clutches of El Presidente Anton Castillo, Far Cry 6 is keen to keep you coming back.

Since the humble days of Far Cry's debut back in 2004, we've seen the franchise go to some weird and wonderful places. From the mammoth-hunting days of Primal to the Cyberpunk future of Blood Dragon, and vehicular VR madness of Driving Insanity, we thought we'd seen it all. Well, not quite yet.

Why Is Far Cry Getting A Stranger Things Crossover?

As revealed by the official Far Cry 6 site, "The Vanishing" is the latest out-there DLC to grace the shooter series. It's described as "a stealth-horror-survival gameplay experience," with promises of new characters, lore, and locations. Sadly, we don't think Winona Ryder will be stopping by to do her infamous Joyce Byers scream.

The DLC turns Yara into a twisted locale inspired by the Upside Down, with Yarans disappearing all over the island. We're warned that no one is safe - not even the adorable Chorizo. You'll get to explore Stranger Things-inspired locations like a secret bunker and abandoned laboratory, but for those who've watched Netflix's hit series, you'll know a Demogorgon is probably behind all the murder and mayhem.

If this wasn't enough, Ubisoft is throwing ANOTHER of its infamous free-to-play weekends. Hoping to suck us into the Upside Down, Far Cry 6 is going free from March 24-27 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC through the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store. Anyone who deices to pay for the full game after that will have their progress rolled over, so if you're new to Yara, why not give it a try?

What's With The Stranger Things Crossover?

If you're questioning what's going on, remember Behaviour Interactive's Dead by Daylight also honoured the tormented town of Hawkins. Far Cry 6 looks like it's trying to cash in on this atmospheric horror, but we doubt it'll be a patch on being stalked around the Hawkins Lab by Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, or Pinhead. Sadly, DbD removed its Stranger Things content (presumably due to licensing). So, looks like you'll have to get your fix in Far Cry

Our Stranger Things crossover comes hot in the footsteps of a Rambo-inspired DLC that featured Danny Trejo, as well as the Season Pass giving us DLCs based on franchise villains including Vaas Montenegro, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed. While a Stranger Things crossover is a welcome addition, we're not really sure of the relevance - especially as Season 4 isn't out until the end of May. At least it should be a fun way to pass the weekend.
