F-Zero Producer Hints Towards A Sequel
When it comes to racing car games in the current climate of esports and gaming, minds are quickly cast towards the likes of Forza Motorsport and Need for Speed.
Old school gamers will remember the times of Mario Kart and Simpsons Hit and Run, but those who started their gaming careers back in the 90s will reminisce over jumping on a Super Nintendo Entertainment System and churning through the gears on F-Zero.
The Nintendo EAD developed game was first released back in 1990 and was known for having futuristic high-speed racing gameplay which was more difficult than many other games around the time of release.
Although it has been released with its classical and rustic feel on the Nintendo Switch, F-Zero never reached its expectations of sales again, after being eclipsed by many engaging racing games with better graphics. Having been set a precedent of how racing games should be played, it appears that the developers could be tempted to make a sequel.
Former F-Zero Producer, and now Yakuza Franchise Developer, Toshihiro Nagoshi explained to Red Bull France that he "wouldn't mind" working on another instalment.
Click to enlargeNagoshi said "Putting aside the odds of it happening, I must admit I have a lot of affection for F-Zero GX. If the opportunity were to present itself, I wouldn’t mind.
"In that case, I’d like to make it a challenging game. I believe that if Nintendo just wants a racing game that is ‘fun and accessible’, they already have Mario Kart for that purpose".
It's clear to see that Nagoshi has the passion and drive to remake F-Zero, but would it be able to stand in a market with such advanced games?
