Grand Theft Auto is an easily adaptable series. It’s a franchise that many gamers can attach themselves to. Whether they want to enact their crime-spree fantasies or just role-play as a taxi driver and following the laws of the road, GTA has it all.

The GTA games are more than versatile - which has been proved since they made the leap to a third-person open world. Now, none other than Elijah Wood agrees, and reckons GTA could even breach the world of video games and stretch across entertainment.

Why does Elijah Wood think a Grand Theft Auto series would be great?

In a recent interview, Lord of the Rings and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency actor Elijah Wood suggested that the Grand Theft Auto series would be his choice for adaption to the TV. Speaking with Hot Ones’ Sean Evans, Wood was asked “Is there a game that you think is especially ripe for a screenplay adaptation?”, and has a very eloquent answer.

“The universe of GTA lends itself beautifully to a screen adaptation or a TV show. I mean, I think Vice City could be amazing, although that already is inspired by Miami Vice, but GTA V, I mean… the kinds of characters that are present within the context of that game very much lends itself either to a film or TV series, that would be amazing.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Elijah Wood Is also ready For the new Resident Evil movie

Following on from the GTA chatter, Wood also mentioned the trends in video game and movie crossovers, saying he’s excited for the upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot to take more influence from its games.

“Another thing that’s happening in the world of video games in terms of adaptations is that they’re going back to Resident Evil. And I’m very keen on that, because the original Resident Evil [movie], whether it’s your thing or not, is very different from the game from an aesthetic standpoint. It was always a shame to me that they didn’t lean on the sort of world that had been established in the game. And I think that’s coming up, which I’m very excited about.”

The upcoming Resident Evil film is indeed set to tackle the zombie outbreak of Racoon City, so Wood is likely to be pleased with the outcome of the film, and we’re behind him all the way.

If there’s anything that we can discern from this conversation, whether it be his take on a GTA series or his excitement for the upcoming Resident Evil projects, it’s this - Elijah Wood is a man of good taste.
