We're not going to beat around the bush here, Elden Ring is hard... like really hard. Like any Souls-like or FromSoftware game, you have to be prepared to die a lot in the Lands Between, but when does your gruelling quest to collect the shards and unite the ring turn into pure rage quitting?

Even though Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has even apologised for the game's back-breaking difficulty, it's something you've got to get used to. Well, unless you've refunded the game, snapped your disk in half, or thrown your controller/mouse at the screen. It looks like a lot of you are simply giving up.

Is Elden Ring Too Hard To Complete?

Over on the Steam Community, the figures speak for themselves when it comes to how hard Elden Ring is. In fact, it's so hard, just over half of players can even get past the first major boss on PC. According to the achievements, only 56.5% of PC players have made it past Shardbearer Godrick (They must've not read our Godrick boss fight guide).

Although Godrick comes after Margit the Fell Omen (with 67.8% completion), he's considered the first main boss of the fantasy epic. From there on out, the figures continue to tumble - with only 3.0% of PC players having managed to best the Elden Lord. We know Elden Ring has a suitably massive playtime - and many are left overwhelmed after defeating Godrick - so we'll let that one slide.

There are sure to be those that call Elden Ring too hard, but if you think Godrick is bad, just think back to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice's Isshin making this one look like a Mario boss. Another reason could be the PC platform in general. It's no secret that Elden Ring was slammed upon arrival on PC, with many citing lacklustre graphics and performance - leading to a slew of refunds.

Is Elden Ring Easier On Other Platforms?

There's a similar story on PlayStation and Xbox, so it's not like PC players are being hindered too much by their choice when it comes to Elden Ring's toil. 62% of Xbox players have bested Godrick, while it's 66% on PlayStation. Sticking with Sony, there's only a 19% Elden Ring completion rate on PlayStation. Then again, if you're stuck at Godrick, remember someone actually managed to beat him with a banana controller.

None of this really matters though, thanks to Elden Ring smashing it in the sales department and earning the best opening week of any non-Call of Duty or FIFA title since Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018. Being a FromSoft game, you always knew Elden Ring was going to be hard. Sadly, it seems some of you didn't anticipate its crushing difficulty.
