While FC 24 continues to struggle in the water, flopping like a flaccid fish out of the water, sharks have begun to circle to take down EA's liquid empire over the football games genre.

Already, a Cristiano Ronaldo-backed realism-heavy UFL has a fin above water, and now 2K looks set to produce a rival football game too.

The latter of which is already striking fear into the hearts of EA FC fans, as the renowned pay-to-win developers could be about to revolutionise the way we consume football titles forever.

Although EA is really not on the side of the players this year, often being criticised for its treatment of the long-standing football community and even mocking them with $20 "loyalty" rewards, it looks like it may be the lesser of two evils.

Fans have taken to Twitter now to express their concerns about 2K getting involved in football games, especially if they go all-in on an Ultimate Team rival.

"I'm no EA fan, but 2K is significantly worse and even more severe in P2W," said popular FC 24 account "Jake_FutTrading".

Others agreed, saying, "2K literally makes EA look like a consumer-friendly game. Like, imagine if you had to pay RMT to buy players in Manager mode or to build a club player."

A third added, "Severe in p2w yes. But games actually more enjoyable generally IMO."

Since the addition of Evolutions in FC 24, many players have taken this with a grain of salt, as it appears to be EA's way of introducing a player market to the series, akin to what 2K has in NBA's My Team mode.

Here, players can be bought directly from the store, rather than having to gamble packs or trade with other players, leaving promos to be more about saving up coins than praying to the pack gods. While this might seem innocuous, players will likely be able to purchase with FIFA Points, allowing those who want to spend big on the game to coup Mbappe from the store with their mum's credit card.

So, despite all of its flaws, many fans are hoping EA's Ultimate Team wins the bout that will come in the future, although a 2K career mode appears to be quite a popular choice too.
