Don't expect a Switch Pro in 2023 - even with Zelda
Rumours of a new Nintendo Switch console have been running since the launch of the Nintendo Switch itself. It's a recurring problem that fans will always look to the future, regardless of what hardware is put in front of them.
Given the immediate concerns with the processing power of the Switch itself - which has proven to produce underwhelming framerates in some cases - Nintendo fanboys have wanted a more powerful edition of the console for some time.
The Switch OLED was a nice surprise, but it wasn't what fans had asked for. Even now, as the Switch's presumed lifespan slows to a crawl, fans aren't letting up their calls. Finally, Nintendo has spoken up on its hardware production, and it looks like it's bad news for the Nintendo Switch Pro.
Nintendo has no plans for new hardware this year
Click to enlargeA new report from Bloomberg has revealed that Nintendo has no plans to release new or upgraded hardware before the end of the fiscal year. Despite Nintendo downplaying the idea, there were hopes that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could usher in a Switch Pro.
The reveal comes from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, who also reveals the gaming giant expects to sell 15 million units of the Nintendo Switch in its current state before the year's end.
It's clear that the Switch is still selling incredibly well, so Nintendo has no real reason to create a new version of the Switch for financial reasons. Still, as calls for 4K and 60 FPS come even for Nintendo (a company that has never focused on the newest technologies) the wait is becoming frustrating for fans.

Click to enlargeEven though Nintendo has some big goals for the Switch's sales this financial year, Furukawa has still told Bloomberg that their goal remains pretty lofty in the face of slowing sales.
"Sustaining the Switch's sales momentum will be difficult in its seventh year. Our goal of selling 15 million unit this fiscal year is a bit of stretch. But we will do our best to bolster demand going into the holiday season so that we can achieve the goal."
It seems as though the future of the Switch's sales is a little unpredictable, and yet, Nintendo isn't planning on dedicating itself to a new model. Sorry, Link - you're stuck with the Hyrule you've got...for now.
