Dead Space x Battlefield 2042 collab is the closest we're getting to a new game
DICE's Battlefield 2042 often comes under criticism for being a bit of a 'dead space', having failed to beat out the likes of Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite at launch, and it hasn't really breathed life into a revival since.
It now seems it's mocking the dead claims by announcing a collaboration with the most dead franchise of all - Dead Space. EA has announced a Battlefield 2042 collaboration with Dead Space, which will see Necromorphs run riot in the military-heavy realism shooter.

Starting on July 9 and lasting for one week, Battlefield 2042 will be overrun by the Necromorphs of Dead Space, as EA combines its two shooter franchises in a limited-time event.
The collaboration will see a new game mode added called Outbreak, which has players combat hordes of enemies in a laboratory experiment gone wrong.
Throughout the Outbreak event, you'll be able to earn special Dead Space-themed rewards, including the iconic Dead Space cover art skin and smaller tidbits like a player card background and tag.

Click to enlargeIt's been over a decade since the last original Dead Space game, with the third instalment of the franchise releasing in 2013. EA has tried to revive interest in the series with the 2023 remake of the OG Dead Space, which has been extremely well-received by critics and fans alike. This has left room for more remakes.
But fans do want a different direction to come from this franchise, with constant calls for EA to make a fourth game in the series. For now, the only invasion that we're getting from Dead Space is into Battlefield 2042, and for now, that will have to do.
