Dark Souls Multiplayer Could Be Dead Forever

You'd think that players would be happy with Elden Ring and all that it has to offer for years, but players are still coming back to Dark Souls. The dedicated FromSoftware fans are going back to their favourites after toppling the many bosses of the Lands Between, and new players are heading back to see what all the fuss is about after beating Elden Ring themselves.

But, there's a problem - as Dark Souls' multiplayer has gone down thanks to some big attacks by hackers, there's a chance it could stay dead forever.

Bandai Namco switched PvP play in all of the Dark Souls games off, citing a dangerous security vulnerability from some angry hackers.

The team promised that the game's PvP modes would be making a return once Elden Ring had launched, which was already deeply frustrating for Dark Souls players, but it was accepted by the community. But six weeks later, we're still without online functionality.

Fans are getting nervous that the games aren't going to get their functionality back - and now even Steam is confirming some sad suspicions.

Steam Removes All Mention Of Multiplayer From Dark Souls

Now, when you take a look at any of the Dark Souls games, they simply don't display any mention of multiplayer capabilities whatsoever in the game's specs.

All of the "multiplayer" tags have been replaced by "singleplayer" ones, and though Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition still details that the game has a PvP arena and online matchmaking, it has still made players a little nervous that multiplayer returning to the games simply isn't enough of a priority for FromSoftware right now for it to actually come around.

It's sad for super-fans of the games, but maybe the games will simply stay in their current states forever. RIP Dark Souls - your new brother Elden Ring will take it from here.
