Secret game drops are perhaps the most excitement we can get in this industry in a post "Everyone Is Here!" world.

The biggest example we've had of a game still making a splash with no time to advertise itself is the brilliant Metroid Prime Remastered, which debuted mere hours after it was announced at a Nintendo Direct presentation.

The hype a shock-drop garner is immense, and now, it looks like Capcom wants a slice of the pie using one of its most popular properties.

Capcom is teasing Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary

Though it's pretty early to do so, it looks as though Capcom is getting ready to celebrate one of its most popular franchises, Monster Hunter. The series is turning twenty (bless it), and though it only hits the milestone in March 2024, Capcom isn't wasting its time waiting around.

"March 2024 marks 20 years since the release of the very first Monster Hunter in Japan!" reads a sweet new tweet from the Monster Hunter team. "To you, our incredible global community, thank you!" But there are some players that think this early celebration is no coincidence.

A Q&A from Capcom has revealed that a new "major" unannounced game will be coming to fans before March 2024, which you might note is a very slim timeframe for a sizeable game even if it were announced today. This was shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, but the report is only in Japanese.

Players are unsure of what to expect - but some have a few theories, and they all pertain to the 20th anniversary of the Monster Hunter series. The report mentions the mysterious game twice, claiming it will hopefully hit a massive 45 million units on console.

The franchise will celebrate entering its twenties in the very same month - March 2024 - and as Capcom has already shared some artwork to commemorate the upcoming date, there are many who feel there's more stewing in the pot for the anniversary than a mere graphic. After all, Monster Hunter goes big, or it doesn't go at all.
