Cancelled Half-Life Game Appears Online
Half-Life remains a pretty big name in the gaming world. It's practically the reason that Valve has its reputation of refusing to develop games with the number three in its title, and for many, it's its best achievement by a wide margin.
The franchise is heralded as one of the best ever made, and though there haven't been many entries made, they're all made with intention and seem to impress every time. Now, a ditched Half-Life sequel has been leaked, and it's a video that gives us a peek into the game that could have been.
Arkane Studios' Half-Life Game Has Leaked
Almost a whole hour of footage from the canned Half-Life game has been revealed, and it was a project by Arkane Studios - the team behind Deathloop and Dishonored.
The game, known as Ravenholm, was set to be yet another outing in the series of extra chapters added to the end of Half-Life 2. It gearing up to be a game without Gordon Freeman, as a fresh addition to the canon of the dystopian adventure title.
The video was revealed by NoClip, and it shows a peek behind the curtain at what could have been. Still, it's clearly unfinished, with some fans pointing out that it uses music from The Dark Knight as placeholders. This suggests Ravenholm might've not been as far along as we'd hoped.
What Would Ravenholm Have Been Like?
The video shows a refreshing take on the Half-Life formula, offering a game that looks to be a bit more survival-heavy, that balances out with more puzzling and Horror-inspired moments. The world of Half-Life can be pretty grim as it is, but Ravenholm seems to steer into violence nicely.
The game looked fantastic, and though we're incredibly excited to see it, it's a sad reminder of what could have been. Over the years, Gabe Newell has stopped just short of confirming a proper Half-Life 3, so we're left living vicariously through Cyberpunk 2077 Easter eggs. Adding to the list of Half-Lifes lost, we'll never get to play Ravenholm, and we're just going to have to accept it. Sigh.
