Oh blimey, it's here. That crept up on us. Modern Warfare 2 is just around the corner, and fans hardly know what to do with themselves. It happens every year, as a new Call of Duty appears and fans prepare to leave its predecessor behind.

Given the life cycle it's had, players couldn't be happier to move on from Vanguard. The game's campaign has already proved controversial in traditional Call of Duty fashion, with early missions seeing you partake in particularly grim atrocities - but that's par for the course for the series at this point.

Recent horrors aside, though, it seems like there could be plans for a fan-favourite character to be getting his own spin-off. As An iconic character in his own right, fans fell in love with Ghost in the very first Modern Warfare title.

Now, the writers of the reboot-sequel fancy themselves up to the job of making the character his own spin-off. In conversation with IGN, Infinity Ward Narrative Director Jeffrey Negus and Head Writer of Modern Warfare 2 Brian Bloom spoke about what's next for the series, and their hopes to give Ghost a little more to play with.

"There are others who would like to do that too," says Bloom. "And we think that would be really interesting. And again, that's kind of where this interview started, that there's something about that character that's iconic, but the mask and some of those more superficial elements, as we've attempted to build them out here in our current release, where did some of those things come from? And exploring that, and looking at that would be something I think the audience would love, and we would love to get into."

Will The Ghost Spin-Off Ever Happen?

There's no telling what could happen with the future of Call of Duty, what with circling rumours that we could be getting a sequel to the much-maligned Advanced Warfare - but who knows, a story all about Ghost isn't too far out of the realm of possibility.

With Modern Warfare 2 and the upcoming Warzone 2 poised as a new era for the CoDverse, there's a sense that Activision is putting all its eggs in Infinity Ward's basked. Perhaps the success of MW2 will bring the fanciful idea of a Ghost spin-off to life - because let's be honest, fans are probably going to love this new game. Put Ghost in a game, and fans will buy it.
