Following the announcement that Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard, many Xbox players assumed that meant Call of Duty was guaranteed to come to Game Pass and potentially become an exclusive franchise for the console.

Well, this was quickly shut down by Xbox CEO Phil Spencer, who revealed that it would "take time" for Microsoft to add CoD to Game Pass.

Not only that, after a lot of hurdles including a lengthy legal battle, Microsoft and Sony came together to form an agreement that guarantees CoD would remain on PlayStation in the future.

The details of this agreement were kept under lock and key, but a court filing has revealed an interesting piece of information involving Sony having the right to bring CoD to PlayStation Plus.

Court filing grants Sony the right to put CoD on PlayStation Plus

As showcased by the popular Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL and reported by stephentotilo, there's a chance CoD will come to PlayStation Plus in the future.

According to reports, the "Microsoft x Sony 10-year deal for Call of Duty that was signed in July - is the same deal Microsoft offered Sony back in December."

This means that Microsoft has agreed to "grant Sony the right to put Call of Duty on PlayStation Plus," which is surprising given that there were concerns CoD would become an Xbox exclusive at the beginning of the acquisition process.

So, what does this mean for the future of Call of Duty, and will it be coming to PlayStation Plus soon?

While Sony has been given the "right" to put Call of Duty on PlayStation Plus in the future, that doesn't mean it'll be coming anytime soon.

Given Phil Spencer has made it clear that it will "take time" to come to Game Pass, it seems very unlikely Microsoft would let CoD come to Sony's subscription service ahead of their own.

Either way, it's an interesting detail in the court filing that could foreshadow the appearance of CoD on PS Plus in the future.
