Call of Duty locks in Black Ops 6's Gulf War setting

After months of the rumour mill working overtime, Black Ops 6 has officially been announced. Call of Duty confirms its 21st consecutive game, with 2024 promising a new era of the shooter series. 

We've all but known that Black Ops 6 has been coming for a while now, ever since Xbox made the fatal error of branding the leaked logo on its [REDACTED] Direct teaser.

The rumoured Gulf War setting had been deliberated on, with some suggesting that the game would drop the real-life conflict storyline altogether. But early reports have turned out to be true, as Black Ops 6 officially locks in its setting as the Gulf War

Black Ops' sequel series first took us through the conflict of the Cold War, touching on gas agents and proxy wars as the US forces hunted down Soviet Agent "Perseus" while fighting in a variety of countries.

The sixth instalment of the series will now turn its attention to the Gulf War, as the official artwork for Black Ops 6 features the word "Gulf" above the title.

Previous leaks hinted at the Gulf War-based game visiting countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, which would be the first time the series has opted to hone in on the Middle Eastern wars.

Now that Black Ops 6 is out of the hat, Call of Duty has confirmed that the Gulf War-based title will be the flagship title, which is the focus of the [REDACTED] Showcase on June 9.

The worldwide reveal will likely showcase details about the Campaign and give us some small hints about what to expect on the Zombie and Multiplayer fronts.

So there we have it, Treyarch is back at the wheel for the next Call of Duty (alongside Raven Software), as the trusted studio looks to move us on from consecutive Modern Warfare years.
