Modern Warfare 2 is set to make Call of Duty history by pressing pause on the rotation of annually releases to reign as the monarch for two years. But, with many people wondering how the sequel of a sequel series will retain players for two years, Infinity Ward has a plan.

It now appears that Modern Warfare 2 will compile everything that Call of Duty has ever celebrated and release a premium DLC for its second year, serving as a 'Greatest Hits' instalment. Approaching the 20th anniversary of Call of Duty - and a new chapter drawn away from Activision towards Microsoft - the developers have reportedly decided to reminisce over the glorious monopoly they have built over the FPS genre.

What Is The Call of Duty Greatest Hits DLC Reportedly In Development?

According to leaks, a 'Call of Duty Greatest Hits' (a placeholder name) will be released inside of Modern Warfare 2 as a 'Premium DLC', akin to how it previously released Zombies Chronicles.

Popular leaker "TheGhostOfHope" has explained that the "greatest hits map pack" is in development, and will feature the best CoD maps of all time pulled in from all three sub-franchises. In a somewhat CoD: Mobile-esque fashion, iconic maps from Treyarch's Black Ops series and Sledgehammer Games' titles will all be pooled together in a medley of masterclasses.

The DLC would also feature the entire Modern Warfare 2 (2009) map pool, which has already been heavily rumoured to be coming in 2023.

Will The Call of Duty Greatest Hits Maps Be Remastered?

With a suspected 20+ maps being available in the Greatest Hits DLC, the content will be ported into Modern Warfare 2, meaning that the classic designs we've loved over the years will have to be tweaked somewhat, especially those coming over from Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games.

Thankfully, many of the iconic landscapes have already been tinkered with, such as Black Ops 2's Raid, which was added to Cold War and will undoubtedly feature in the 'best of the best' catalogue.

Not necessarily known for their impressive map designs, it will be interesting to see which Sledgehammer Games' maps could make the portfolio, with Sovereign and London Docks being their only outstanding designs to date. Maybe we might see the return of Bocage all too early.

The Greatest Hits DLC can be estimated to be around $30, which was the price of the Zombies Chronicles celebration. To honour 20 glorious years from Call of Duty, we say it's a small price to pay.
