The inevitable annual instalment leaks have arrived early this year in Call of Duty, with a wealth of information about Treyarch's supposed Gulf War game that is to be released.

But nothing concrete has been given from Activision as of yet about the next Call of Duty instalment, it's all been speculation and insiders filling the space with Zombies updates and open-world campaign leaks.

Yet Microsoft might have just dropped its first official mention of the next Call of Duty 2024 and letting slip its release window.

Having seen Call of Duty land in the grip of Microsoft amid the Activision takeover, Xbox owner Phil Spencer has reportedly told his staff that Call of Duty 2024 is planned for October.

As reported by Inverse, Spencer has told staff in a company meeting that it is safe to assume Call of Duty will be coming in October this year.

This comes in the wake of Xbox's multiplatform releases, with Microsoft appearing to be ready to share all of their owned titles with Sony and PlayStation, including Call of Duty and previous exclusives like Starfield.

Does an October release mean Call of Duty 2024 is getting early access again?

Call of Duty has historically launched in last-October / early-November, with most of the titles coming after the final chime of the clock on Halloween night.

But there's also been the recent trend of Call of Duty offering one week's worth of Early Access to the annual releases, giving access to the Campaign one week before the release of Multiplayer and Zombies.

Another Early Release would be quite on-par, especially given the leaks about the Black Ops Campaign going down a very different route, and Microsoft will be wanting to get off on a better footing that Modern Warfare 3 did.

Ultimately though, we won't know until deep into the Spring when an announcement will likely air.
