Black Ops 6 seemingly confirms the return of fan-favourite characters

Treyarch's Star Wars-like approach to the prequel of Black Ops's storyline is back for its second instalment, showing the gang fighting through the 80s and 90s before we were first introduced to them in Black Ops 1 (2010).

With 14 years of getting to know the Black Ops crew, they've never quite been able to eclipse the status of Modern Warfare's Task Force 141 though, and Captain Price has remained the face of the series.

But in a bid to keep hammering home the reputation of these undercover military agents, Treyarch's latest marketing material has all but confirmed that some fan-favourite faces are returning in Black Ops 6.

Frank Woods and Russel Adler teased for Black Ops 6 return

The latest trailer released by Treyarch for Black Ops 6 has sparked a lot of controversy, as Saddam Hussein appears to be the villain for the Campaign, which could be set to be a new open-world setting featuring the Iraqi leader's palace in Baghdad.

The trailer also seemingly confirmed that Frank Woods will return in Black Ops 6 to take on this formidable and anti-human world leader. In the short clip, a TV show named "Frank & Woods" can be seen, which is a clear reference to the Call of Duty veteran.

Woods, who has been in every Black Ops game covering the timespan of 1961 to 2045, is the most recognisable member of the team alongside the father-and-son duo of Alex and David Mason.

It doesn't look like Woods is the only returning character either, as an earlier trailer also detailed Russel Adler's appearance in the title.

Adler was the first main character to be added as a prequel-only protagonist and has since been well-liked in the community for adding a new dynamic to the Black Ops crew.

Now, the two remaining synonymous sub-franchise names that are left to be revealed are Alex Mason and Jason Hudson, while the whereabouts of "Bell" and "Perseus" (the series' antagonist), are still not clear.

Black Ops fans might also be keen to see if William Bowman (son of Joseph Bowman, played by Ice Cube in Black Ops 1), will also feature, having played a part in the Pawn takes Pawn reveal of Cold War.

Black Ops still has a long way to go before it has the same reputation as Modern Warfare's characters, despite having an arguably stronger collection of games to its series. But maybe the sixth game and whatever comes in 2025 will allow Treyarch to finally boast characters that can be as recognisable as Price and Ghost.
