The jet pack era in Call of Duty is quite a distant memory now, considering that the last title, Infinite Warfare, was released nearly eight years ago.

Since then, players have often clamoured for some form of futuristic balance, whether it be exo suits or specialists, and we've only just begun to scratch the surface this year as Sledgehammer brought back some plasma-firing weapons.

Now, Black Ops 6 looks set to be pushing the gate between dimensions wide open, as Treyarch is reportedly gearing up to remaster the first futuristic map.

Treyarch has a number of great jet pack maps in its arsenal. In fact, Black Ops 3 has the most underrated map pool in CoD history (in my humble opinion). Stronghold, Combine, Infection, Hunted, Redwood, and Fringe are all incredible maps, but they faced eternal doom in the archives by knowing that jet packs are likely not coming back.

However, Fringe doesn't necessarily need the wall-running exo suits and could work as a solid boots-on-the-ground map. At least, that appears to be the line of thought for Treyarch. Among the leaked Black Ops 6 maps, files for "Fringe" were found, among other remasters like WMD, Hacienda, and Firing Range.

This would be the first-ever jet pack remaster, opening the door to more maps from the likes of Black Ops 3 to be reconfigured into the modern era (or past because Black Ops 6 is a '90s to '00s title).

Of course, there are examples of the maps going in the other direction because Nuketown and Firing Range are among many to have been dolled up with futuristic elements in the past, and it's surprising it has taken the developers this long to place down a reverse card.

It also leaves the door open for Sledgehammer Games to end Modern Warfare 3 with a bang. Who would say no to Solar remastered?
