What is the next step for the shooter genre? Have we gotten to a point where we've been there, done that, bought the t-shirt?

What can Call of Duty really do differently that makes it improve (rather than have a full-stable game)?

Well, one of the new mechanics in the works by some game developers is "omnidirectional movement", and building on its usage in previous Max Payne games, it looks like Call of Duty fancies a slice of that cake.

Omnidirectional diving mechanics leaked for Black Ops 6

Shortly after releasing a report that Call of Duty is set to deploy a Theatre Mode in Black Ops 6, renowned leaker "BobNetworkUK" has claimed that Treyarch is also working on "omnidirectional movement".

This feature allows players to sprint, dive, and slide in all directions.

"Exclusive: Black Ops 6 will reportedly allow players to dive in all directions, similar to Max Payne. The game will also allow players to sprint in all directions," BobNetworkUK said on X (formerly Twitter).

Max Payne is a third-person shooter though, and there has yet to have been a title where this movement mechanic has been adapted to first-person, which does add a sense of curiosity to the idea; it's not yet known whether this will be a campaign-specific feature, or a third-person mode exclusive, or used game-wide.
