Unfortunately for those Call of Duty fans who love blasting limbs off a hoard of undead flesh-eaters, the Zombies side of the franchise has been sorely slept on as Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward have weighed their focus elsewhere.

A four-year gap for Zombies content is planned, as the Black Ops series won't be expanded on from its Cold War (2020) instalment until the proposed Gulf War-based game is released in 2024, and fans have begun missing the spin-off mode.

So, why not go back to when Zombies was at its peak? That's right, Black Ops 2 is back. Wth new maps and modes, Zombies is being revived.

Black Ops 2 Zombies was one of the best eras that we've seen in the Call of Duty undead series, beaten maybe only by Black Ops 1, with Treyarch getting the ball rolling with the likes of Tranzit, Nuketown, Die Rise, Mob of the Dead, Buried, and Origins.

But just as old-school Black Ops games have begun to overtake Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox marketplace, modders have now revived Zombies by creating brand-new maps and modes.

Call of Duty zombies modder "Jbleezy" has now created "Black Ops 2 Reimagined", which has restored axed maps and modes from the iconic game, updated the pixellated 11-year-old graphics, and even brought out different game modes that build upon the usual Zombies experience, perfect for co-op play.

The Black Ops 2 Reimagined mod contains modes such as "Search and Rezurrect" (essentially SnD with zombies serving as additional distractions), "Grief", "Race" (first to 500 kills), "Containment" (a Zombies equivalent of Hardpoint), and "Meat" (a mode which consists of holding smelly meat that Zombies are attracted to).

The mod is available to be played on Plutonium with no download needed, and contains all of the usual Zombies malarkey on top of the new features.

So, grab your Richtofen, Dempsey, and Samantha counterparts and relive the peak Zombies experience, and evade the lul that Modern Warfare 2 hangs within.
