We're feeling a little left in limbo now that the first season of The Last of Us has drawn to a close. The series was a perfect reflection of the video game on the small screen, as HBO proved fan worries were misguided week-by-week.

The live-action appearance of Joel and Ellie has become one of the network's most popular offerings in years, and any show that's bold enough to stand up against House of the Dragon is a big deal.

As The Last of Us Season 2 has now been confirmed, viewers are waiting with bated breath to find out when we can expect it - and thankfully, one of its stars has offered an update.

During a new appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, our live-action Ellie revealed when they expect the new series to finally land. Unfortunately, Bella Ramsey's update suggests Season 2 isn't just around the corner.

"It will be a while," they say on the show. "I think we"ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next. And then it’s a long, it’s like a year filming, so it will be probably the end of 2024, early 2025."

They're very open about the fact that we could be waiting some time. Still, if it comes together with a similar quality to the first series, we could be in for yet another legendary adaptation. Thankfully, The Last of Us isn't likely to end there.

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin want a TLoU season 3

In a recent conversation, showrunner Craig Mazin and Game Director Neil Druckmann have confirmed that they don't expect the events of The Last of Us Part II to be summarised in a single season

"No. No way," says Druckmann of the game being shrunk into just one season. "It's more than one season." Mazin wouldn't confirm whether it's just two seasons, meaning some have taken this as a sign we could even be getting The Last of Us Season 4.

Though we'll be waiting a hot minute for Season 2's arrival, it's reassuring to know that there could be even more to come afterwards. At least we've got enough time to brace for the Twitter discourse that Abby Anderson's arrival will bring.
