Although Assassin's Creed might be comfortably stepping into the future with its swathes of announced games in the works, but there's no way that's going to stop long-time fans from reflecting on what they deem the good old days.

To be fair, it's hard to fault them. The gaming community's reaction to Assassin's Creed II felt like a compelling, lightning-in-a-bottle, moment in gaming history that truly brought communities to life in a way that Ubisoft hasn't been able to replicate.

Of the many games that players want to experience all over again, it's the swashbuckling adventure Black Flag that often floats to the top of conversations - and it looks like players are getting a follow-up. But, your Assassin's Creed: Black Flag sequel might not be what you expected. Sorry.

Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple is a Black Flag sequel

Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple has been revealed as an official follow-up to Edward Kenway's story first established in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

The story will follow Kenway as he finds the pieces of Eden across the Southeast Asian seas, after his full integration into the Brotherhood, as well as meeting his descendant Noa - but there's a catch.

Sadly, when many hear "a sequel to Black Flag," they'd naturally assume Ubisoft was talking about a game. Forgotten Temple is actually a webtoon, which is basically like a slightly moving online comic book. Oh.

"We are thrilled to expand the Assassin's Creed series to webtoon thanks to this amazing collaboration with webtoon and Redice Studio," says Ubisoft's director of global TV and transmedia business development Julien Fabre.

"We've been working hard with the talented folks at Redice to craft this original Assassin's Creed: Black Flag sequel and hope that existing fans and new readers around the world will enjoy it."

When is Forgotten Temple coming out?

It's nice to see more of Kenway in any form, and we're sure the webtoon will be a great time for fans of our nautical favourite. Still, it's definitely not what fans have been after. We'll take it, begrudgingly.

Thankfully, we don't have long to wait before we get to see Kenway again. In fact, our Assassin's Creed: Black Flag sequel is right around the corner.

The series will roll out with new episodes weekly, starting on April 24. This means we'll be getting our Kenway fill for some time. It might not be what we asked for, but we'll take what we can get. Now, where's our Black Flag remake
