When it comes to star power, Matthew McConaughey is a hell of a pull for the upcoming sci-fi RPG Exodus, but there's a lot more than just the True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club star on offer.

The game, initially revealed at last year's Game Awards, is still without a release date, but a new series of concept art images should help tide you over if you're itching to play.

There's definitely a strong Mass Effect vibe here, but with a little treasure-hunting feel with the image of characters next to some sort of huge door.

Alongside the artwork, the developer has revealed a short story about The Travelers, presumably the game's protagonist's faction.

The lore explains some of the stakes players will encounter, notably Time Dilation, the Celestials race, and their relationship with humanity.

Exodus is Archetype Entertainment's first game. It is helmed by James Ohlen, who previously worked on RPG classics like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and the original Mass Effect, among many others.

It's slated to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and McConaughey is playing a character who will "have a unique relationship with every player", as per Archetype.

Short stories, concept art and stunning cinematics aside, here's hoping it's not too long before we get to see what Exodus' gameplay involves and how malleable its RPG systems are.
